It all started with an idea!
It all began with an idea.
An idea that our communities—especially those historically underserved—deserve green spaces. An idea that climate action must go hand in hand with social equity. An idea that, if given the right resources and support, people could create lasting environmental change from the ground up.
As an award-winning social entrepreneur and environmental activist, I have dedicated my career to addressing the intertwined challenges of climate change and social justice. My journey has been driven by a commitment to creating a healthier planet where everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive.
That realization led me to found Project Petals, a nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental conservation, sustainability, and community revitalization. The mission was simple: turn overlooked spaces into vibrant, sustainable places. But simple does not mean easy. At first, I had no blueprint, no funding, just the conviction that change was possible. I knocked on doors, met with residents, and brought together volunteers who shared my vision. Slowly but surely, we transformed abandoned lots into green spaces, empowered youth with environmental education, and mobilized entire communities to take ownership of their local ecosystems.
Recognizing that climate change is more than an environmental issue—it is a social and economic issue that affects everyone—I have focused on initiatives that bridge the gap between environmental stewardship and social equity. Through grassroots projects and partnerships with global organizations, including the United Nations, I have worked towards a world where all communities have equitable access to healthy, climate-resilient, and sustainable environments.
One of the highlights of my advocacy work was speaking in front of a United Nations panel, where I emphasized the importance of innovative and intersectional solutions to the climate crisis. I have also had the opportunity to share my message of climate resilience with over 2 million TV viewers, appearing on shows such as The Kelly Clarkson Show and The Drew Barrymore Show.
Through my nonprofit organization, Project Petals, we have implemented environmental conservation projects that have provided over 100,000 people with access to green spaces. Additionally, I have advocated for policies securing $4.2 billion for environmental improvement, infrastructure, and green jobs.
My journey from ideas to impact has been fueled by the belief that environmental equity is a human right. By addressing the climate crisis through a lens of social justice, we can create sustainable solutions that benefit all communities, ensuring a healthier planet for future generations.
